Indepedent
To give me more ideas about my audience i have done research on te top ten most loved horror movies of all time the link takes you to them and there trailers i have discovered that originality is the key and a classic is one of the few things that can be watched repeatedly any time, any day, any where and is a key source of escapism:
http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/51877/top-10-ground-breaking-horror-movies-all-time
For my horror opening clip id like to do something unique, i was thinking of having the whole scene in black and white or purposely a little bit shallow in quality. This is to give it a more olden response and make the audience feel uncomfortable but intrigued at the same time? I have a specific storyline idea in mind, teenage girl home alone while parents have gone away for the weekend, she is in the comfort of her own home and is tuned into the radio while making dinner for herself in the kitchen-maybe using a sharp metal knife to cut up vegetables? (a disaster waiting to happen) anyway as she's walking around maybe humming a song to herself. Meanwhile the description of a missing girl is loudly being announced on the radio "dark hair, dark eyed teenager went missing from her home in Northwest London last Tuesday, police and detectives are hard at work and DNA results from her house have show signs of a abduction but with no false entry?.."
half way through the radio she starts to listen in and takes a good look in the mirror in the similarities of her and the description of the girl even down to the detail of area and then BOOM! a figure standing behind her in a black cape with only bloodshot eyes in her view, she sees this in her reflection and gasps but when she slowly turns around there is no one there! is it just paranoia? when she walks back into the kitchen in her pyjamas he is standing in front of her with the kitchen knife in his hand...
Introduce the makers with a plain and simple black background with red bold writing to meet up with the audiences expectations of red and black being fearful and hated colours. Noises of radio breaking up signal and a long scream in the end that lasts up to 5 seconds?

Step One Analysis
This is my step one analysis of my chosen genre, after self debating and a very long conversation with my review it as been decided that i need major improvements in these key areas:

  • Giving more analysis on the opening clip its self in terms of setting, characters, pathetic fallacy?
  • How i would go about grasping the readers attention
  • Considering angle, position and movement
  • costume? mis-en-sense
  • come up with a well rounded perspective of opening

ATTENTION
Ladies and gentlemen, due to technical difficulties i was made to transfer all my work from Google+(plus) onto my blogger. Without realising i had been updated posts onto Google+ and even though they are linked with blogger it did not seem to appear, this is the reason for alot of entries made today and i apologise for the inconvenience and shall not make such a silly mistake again. But i have managed to learn alot from looking through the settings and i must admit you can truly do alot on blogger.com. Thumbs up to te creator of such a widespread and profound social networking site!
PowerPoint Presentation
I made a powerpoint presentation on Horror and included certain shots and the effect of these, i wanted to do something out of the ordianary in terms of presentation. I print screened each slide so you can take a closer look.

What i watch on a saturday night in

I personally enjoy watching lots of widespread genres but i am definitely a sucker for romantic comedy! My all time favourite film would have to be Friends With Benefits, its a classic boy meets girl borderline and has its audience next to a tissue at all times. I really admire the personalities that each character has trough the mis-en-scene. Girl, being very simple but yet intelligent has a selfish lifestyle where her world revolves around herself and work. Boy, stereo-typical but doesn't lack to much emotion. Starts of with games ends up with love; i know what your thinking cheesy right? but its every girls fantasy prince charming running along to save the day. comment or like? :)
Main Film Genres:
Action- Includes high energy e.g battles, rescues of loved ones, good vs evil. All for audience escapism.
Adventure-Makes the audience exited and has in my own personal opinion the best story lines! Filled with journeys and completion of tasks e.g treasure hunts. Prime example: Pirates Of The Caribbean.
Comedy- Comedy is deliberately designed to amuse and provoke laughter, it does this by exaggerating the situation and characters physically and speech wise. It tackles situations that most genres don't, it consists of no shame and little pride in a humorous manner. Usually has very light story lines to bring out the characters personalities rather then the story line itself.
Crime and Gangster- Involves alot of violence and people using others for there own benfit. This genre is usually for the older audience as it does not send of a good message for the youngsters of the family 'Thug Life' involves sex, drugs, crime and money. E.g Kidulthood/Adulthood, The God Farther
Drama- Drama is more serious, has alot of realistic characters, setting, living up to expectations of everyday life.
Epics/Historical-Epics take an historical or imagined event, mythic, legendary, or heroic figure, and add an extravagant setting and lavish costumes, accompanied by grandeur and spectacle, dramatic scope, high production values, and a sweeping musical score.it also has alot of Medieval figures and Roman with special effects included for the audience to know they are viewing this genre.
Horror-Designed to frighten and battle our darkest fears. Its often shocking and terrifying throughout with also elements of basic entertainment. Its conventions are sometimes different as there doesn't always have to be a motive for the characters.
Musical/Dance-As written in the name includes alot of dance and singing. Its main form of entertainment is for its audience to sing and dance along with it. Sometimes has crazy tricks that leave the viewers astounded and amazed.
Science Fiction-Science films are visionary and imaginative complete with heroes aliens. The makers of these films can be as crazy as they want as there is no limits. It overlaps with alot of genres such as horror, action and adventure.
War-stories of military operations, and training can also include graffic nature of behind the scene stories of the many who suffered and upon the individuals mentality and physical ability.
Westerners-Based on American film industry, they are the oldest and most recognisable with relevant settings such as horses, boots, dusty towns, Cowboys and Indians.
Conventions From Real Media Texts

Superman Awakening is a classic film loved by all different age groups. The main reason why i decided to watch this opening is to understand its world wide success and be able to grab inspiration from it. The Establishing Ariel shot of the world is amazing and immediately sends of a message that this film is adventurous, grasping everyone's attention. Its starts off very relaxing and just sets the atmosphere for its audience, clearly showing setting and basis. its as if its argumentatively showing that this perfect area will not be staying safe and friendly for much longer. The asteroids set on fire directly leading to earth becomes very worrying to the viewers and shows clear signs of danger the dramatic irony (audiences knowledge) worries them concluding to them watching it all the way through. This is a very clever narrative hook, giving me ideas to build upon.
Ali G In Da House is a comedy with alot of adult content but is a prime example of a stereo typical 'Gangster' movie.
The opening has back and fourth flashes while the setting is being displayed, this shock factor disturbing the human eye, argumentatively hypnotises the audience into watching more.
The main character is shown to the audience as a bit of a clown with his bright yellow and orange gear on. He is instantly funny making the viewers fall in love with him, come on now who doesn't like a good laugh!

Dawn of The Dead
The second opening i watched was from Dawn of the Dead which is a Horror based film. I couldn't quite locate were the opening clip was, it was a struggle to find on YouTube but you kind of understand the idea of this. Although its not a personally favourite film of mine the shots were very suitable and kept me hooked.
the colours of red and orange are clear indications of evil, death and hell so audience are noticing genre straight away buy these clues. The stereo-typical blonde character is focused upon and given a personality too. i would liek to however challenge this in my production and make my female victim a dark haired later asking my viewers if they still feel sorry for her.
Editing of music (argumentative broken strings or fierce scratching noises) disturbs the listeners meeint up with a general convention of a horror. I would aslso like to use abnormal disturbing sounds in my production to leave my audience scared and vunerable. The Ariel shot is a odd view but is done to get the audience to relate to the setting of a calm relaxing neighbourhood; But not for much longer i presume? Although i woudl like to slowly build dramatic tension in my clip i have limited time to do so, so i shall make sure in mine i start the 'fear' instantly.
In this opening the audiences assumptions are made, for the camera to play on the viewers thoughts is a vital way of making sure they are interacting, for example if it starts of a sunny day the viewers presumme nothing is wrong but here it challenges that and the audience sense danger right away. I really enjoy the way the girl was listening to a song that had lyrics involving death and last day of comfert. This being a little ironic and symbolising what is about to occour. I would like to use a symbol in my production to make the audience investigate or become confused such as a ring or a tattoo.
Today i watched two film openings. The first focus was on Hot Fuzz, i personally found this very engaging. Obviously its done to entertain the audience and it builds tension through no dialouge and only a loud sound of paceful music being listened to by the audience. This sound is proboly done to illistrate his personality, career situation or give some sort of clues about the genre of the movie and upcoming events- fights etc.
The opening to a siren-post production police siren gets the audience's attention immediately, this also contrasts within society as sirens means there's trouble ahead or something bad is currently happening. This initially starts to pick up the pace of of the scene for the viewers and keeps them intregued.
The man walking tawards the camera gets the viewers asking questions like 'Who is he? what is the purpose of his character?' The zoom into his feet i found was a very unusual shot but also a clever one  (this involve mis-en-scene)as plain black working shoes showing what position he is currently at, meaning he is active and that his job has some sort of uniform. I can see many cuts in the shot of him walking (as him simply walking would not be entertaining enough for us as a audience) these various camera position reveals where he is going and his 'destination'  and also where he is coming from, shown through long shots of his back is filmed and pan shots to follow his pace of walking- which is fast and authorative. I also noticed a slight error in this filming, the automatic door opened when the male was entering the room; but as you can see he is not even near the door and they instantly open making it seem in continuous and unrealistic. I am going to ensure i do not make these minor mistakes and although i repeatidly watched this and only realised after several repeats, its still a error that needs to be avoided. I like the zooms into his shoes and would like to use this for the killer in my production. I am also impressed with how the footsteps matched the walking of the male this takes precise editiing and detailed examination of movement.
Personally, i found this one of the most useful opening clips and am truly inspired in how they made a normal walk into something dramatic and overwhelming.

Issues with the Preliminary:
Today we filmed our Preliminary video and i personally found it quite challenging.
The first main problem we faced was where we could have the interaction between the two participants as everywhere was to noisy or did not have a door near enough. We eventually thought of the school canteen and i finalised the setting with the other members of our group. I also found it unstable with the tripod at first but later overcame that issue when it resulted to allot of handshake without it so i realized its true purpose and why it was a necessity. However regardless of these problems the filming went smoothly and we managed to finish the task within given time and shall start the editing process first thing tomorrow on our newly set up Mac laptops in school.
